For example, you can extend your journey towards the beautiful [Pink Lake](/routes/17-pink-lake-in-gatineau-park). It's a scenic route that will leave you in awe of nature's wonders. Another option is the [Vincent Massey and Beyond](/routes/7-vincent-massey-and-beyond) route, which offers a flatter and easier ride. If you're a fan of beaches and want to enjoy more of them, you can ride further to [Lac Beauchamp](https://goo.gl/maps/2gKjZovTcQ2tsgDt7). It's a fantastic place to unwind and have some fun in the sun. 🏝️ Here are some tips to make your cycling adventure even better: - 🦌 Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way. I always see deer [hanging around here](https://goo.gl/maps/fkK8bXogm7tWjtfN7). Look no further than Wakefield, a charming village in Québec that's just 40KM away from downtown Ottawa. This is a day-long ride that won't disappoint. To get there, I recommend taking the **Chelsea Community Trail** - it's by far the best route. Starting in [Gatineau Park](/routes/17-pink-lake-in-gatineau-park), this trail will take you by the river for most of the way, avoiding Route 105 and offering stunning views of the surrounding natural beauty. What's more, the Chelsea Community Trail was once an old train route that's since been adapted into a perfectly flat gravel trail. So whether you're an experienced cyclist or just starting out, you'll find this route to be both scenic and manageable. So if you're ready for a day-long ride that will help you beat the heat and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, head to Wakefield via the Chelsea Community Trail - you won't be disappointed! If you want something more challenging, check out the [Cyclocross version](https://ottawabybike.ca/rides/wakefield-cyclotour-with-olivia) of this route. 🚗 Driving? This is a great ride for anyone getting started with long distance gravel, since it avoids roads. It's built on previous rail roads. It can get a bit dull at times since it's so straight, so make sure to bring a podcast, some suncreen, and maybe a gatorade! 🍦 I highly recommend stopping for some ice cream in Stittsvile at [Jo-Jo's Creameria](https://maps.app.goo.gl/5aGQa5DZprihTTJY6) (no association, but really good ice cream!) We vary start locations, routes, and distances throughout the year, so you can choose what fits your goals. You can find every ride in the club calendar, and you can sign up in advance. We organize road rides in groups of **6–12 cyclists**, and knowledgeable OBC ride leaders guide each group. We build groups based on speed, ability, and riding goals, so everyone rides at a comfortable pace. Group riding helps you draft and save energy especially into the wind while keeping the ride social. And if you get a flat or run into a mechanical issue, others can support you. We follow the group-riding practices in the [Education section](https://ottawabicycleclub.ca/education/), and we apply a no-drop approach unless a ride description says otherwise. **Bikes** Road bikes work best for these rides, and many gravel bikes also fit well. Some riders use cyclocross or lightweight hybrid bikes; however, the most important choice is your pace group. Pick a group speed you can maintain comfortably for the full ride. **Group speeds** You register in advance for a pace group. The fastest groups focus on performance, so riders should arrive fit, experienced, and self-sufficient. The other groups ride at a more social or recreational pace, and they offer extra support if someone struggles. **Requirements:** - [OBC Membership](https://ottawabicycleclub.ca/membership/) - [Group Riding Clinic](https://ottawabybike.ca/events/2026/obc-group-riding-clinic/) --- ### OttBike Social - Spring Calendar - **Date:** April 16 – June 25, 2026 - **Location:** Various locations ## Slow Bike Rides with Nice People #OttBikeSocial is a great opportunity to meet new people while exploring the capital at a relaxed pace. We aim for 25 km/h on the roads and an overall ride average above 20 km/h. Routes are marginally more challenging than the regular social rides and, aside from a quick regroup after any particularly challenging segments, won't have breaks. If you're consistently averaging more than 20 km/h on Strava, these are a good fit; and if you can't hold the pace, catch up when you get a second wind or self-drop and join us at the finish (or another time). A social hangout follows each ride for those who'd like to stay. Bring: lights, water, snacks/electrolytes if you need them. Dress for the weather. Wear a helmet. --- ### OBC Women’s Morning Pink Hill Repeats - **Date:** May 13 – July 1, 2026 - **Location:** Gatineau Park P3 ## Hello to our 2026 OBC Women Members!
