Look no further than Wakefield, a charming village in Québec that's just 40KM away from downtown Ottawa. This is a day-long ride that won't disappoint. To get there, I recommend taking the **Chelsea Community Trail** - it's by far the best route. Starting in [Gatineau Park](/routes/17-pink-lake-in-gatineau-park), this trail will take you by the river for most of the way, avoiding Route 105 and offering stunning views of the surrounding natural beauty. What's more, the Chelsea Community Trail was once an old train route that's since been adapted into a perfectly flat gravel trail. So whether you're an experienced cyclist or just starting out, you'll find this route to be both scenic and manageable. So if you're ready for a day-long ride that will help you beat the heat and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, head to Wakefield via the Chelsea Community Trail - you won't be disappointed! If you want something more challenging, check out the [Cyclocross version](https://ottawabybike.ca/rides/wakefield-cyclotour-with-olivia) of this route. 🚗 Driving? Soon after Rockliffe Park there's a bike path that's parallel to a gravel path, it's highly recommended to take the gravel even on road tires, the views by the river are gorgeous! 🐿️ Beware of little critters as you cruise through the woods. Overall, I can't recommend this bike route enough. It's the perfect way to recharge your batteries and disconnect from the fast-paced city life. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your bike, pack your bags, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure in Plaisance National Park! 🗺️ [Ride with GPS](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41120844?privacy_code=PTiJKhbqslHXdLjc) 🏕️🚴 A new highlight is that this park is part of [Bienvenue Cyclistes](https://www.routeverte.com/en/hebergements/parc-national-de-plaisance-2/), which allows you to camp without reservation at a cheaper rate if you arrive on your bike. This route offers a great workout with plenty of uphill sections, but the rewards are well worth it: breathtaking views and thrilling descents that can reach up to 60km/h! For an added bonus, note that the National Capital Commission (NCC) typically closes roads to cars for much of the summer. Check out the [**Road Closure Schedule**](https://ncc-ccn.gc.ca/places/gatineau-park-parkways-schedule) to plan your ride accordingly and enjoy a car-free experience. While this ride can be quite demanding, even for experienced cyclists, it's certainly doable for newcomers with some training and preparation. We recommend bringing sugary snacks to avoid muscle soreness and staying away from [the bunk!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFVpUBCe9bQ). ### There's More! Starting from Québec and ending in Ontario, this ride is all about experiencing the thrill of crossing provinces via the ferry halfway through. But, that's not all - the gravel in the first half is worth the trip in itself! Now, I have to warn you, this ride is roughly 70% road, but don't let that discourage you. The ferry comes frequently, and while you wait, why not indulge in some delicious poutine? ⛴️📱 You can pay the ferry with Tap/Apple Pay ([**debit only!**](https://www.quyonferry.com/)) Once you've crossed the ferry, get ready for a quiet and serene ride on "Ferry Road." This stretch is mostly used by people coming and going to the ferry, which means you'll only encounter a few cars every 15/30 minutes - talk about peaceful! But, don't let the calm scenery fool you. This ride is quite demanding, so make sure you pace yourself and bring plenty of snacks and water. And, if you're planning to take on this adventure on a scorching hot day, be prepared for double the challenge! So, pack your bags, hop on your bike, and get ready for an unforgettable journey! - 📰 [BikePack.ca's review](https://www.bikepack.ca/qewloop) **Food:** - 🍟 [Patates des 4 As](https://goo.gl/maps/ihJfCeHowV6ptLD79) - 🍟 [Casse Croute Du Village](https://goo.gl/maps/r8w1ResHvE5Cbfef8) --- ### Richmond - Manotick - **Distance:** 92 km - **Type:** Loop on road - **Elevation:** 359m gain - **Difficulty:** Hard (relative to other routes on this site) - **Nearby:** Flora Footbridge (Bridge), Vincent Massey Park (Park), Remic Rapids Park (Park), NCC Bistro at Remic Rapids Park (Restaurant), Kichesippi Beer Co (Beer) - **GPX download:** https://ottawabybike.ca/routes/richmond-manotick/main.gpx - **More info:** https://ottawabybike.ca/routes/richmond-manotick This one is for my roadies out there. I've got the lowdown on a groovy gravel route that'll take you through a journey filled with scenic wonder and adventure! This gravel route? It's got a cool vibe, almost like you're riding on an actual road. Full of right-angle turns, it's a bit of a maze, but in a fun, twisty kind of way. From Ottawa, buckle up for a 1-hour drive to reach this gem. It's located in a quaint little town that has a thing for cow-decorated street posts - a super fun touch!🐄 It's like getting a warm, moo-ving welcome right off the bat! This route doesn't come with many chill spots to take a breather, so make sure you plan your stops well. But hey, there's a gazebo marked on our map that makes for a great pit stop. So don't miss out on that!
