NCC Weekend Bikedays
- Date
- May 9 – October 12, 2026
Confirmed for 2026! 🎉
From May 9 to October 12, the NCC reserves parkways in Ottawa for active use every Saturday, Sunday, and holiday Monday. Whether you're cycling, walking, in-line skating, using a wheelchair, or pushing a stroller — these roads are yours.
The three parkways
Kichi Zībī Mīkan — both westbound lanes, from Vimy Place to Carling Avenue (9 km). Open 8 am to noon. Runs along the south side of the Ottawa River past Remic Rapids Park, Bate Island, Westboro Beach, Deschênes Rapids Lookout and Mud Lake.
Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway — both lanes, from Aviation Parkway to St. Joseph Boulevard in Orléans (8 km). Open 8 am to 4 pm. Connects to the Capital Pathway network and the NCC River House.
Queen Elizabeth Driveway — both lanes, from Fifth Avenue to Somerset Street (2.4 km). Open 8 am to 8 pm. Runs along the west side of the Rideau Canal, near Patterson Creek Park and Commissioners Park.
Good to know
- Exit on time. Riders must clear the parkways at the indicated end time. It can take up to an hour to fully reopen the road to vehicles.
- Coffee stop. The NCC Bistro at Remic Rapids Park stays open during closures — drive in via the eastern Kichi Zībī Mīkan or Goldenrod Driveway.
About the program
The NCC has been creating car-free parkway experiences since 1970. Today the program turns nearly 20 km of Ottawa parkways into a shared space for thousands of people every weekend.
