Vélo Vanier is a free bicycle lending program run by the Vanier Community Services Centre. If you live in Vanier (postal code starts with K1L), you can borrow a bike for free from May to October — no catch. They have a fleet of over 200 recycled bicycles in all sizes, so there's something for everyone.
What they offer
Bike lending: Borrow a bike for the summer, free of charge. Vélo Vanier mechanics handle all maintenance and repairs. Borrowing evenings are posted on their website and social media each spring.
Group rides: Guided rides exploring Ottawa's cycling network. A great way to discover new places, learn about safety, and get to know the city from a cyclist's perspective. Free and open to everyone — you don't need to be a Vanier resident.
Workshops: Free individual or group sessions covering bike maintenance, route planning, traffic rules, and how to use bike accessories. Schedule posted in the spring.
Vélo Vanier also accepts donations of bicycles, trailers, and child seats based on fleet needs. Contact them to arrange a donation.
